Rep Leveling

Post  {LNAW}Hawkinz on Sun Jun 05, 2011 7:29 am

You should already know this, because it was probably shown to you before you came into our clan. If you don't, however...

... this is how you take a new character, and make your reputation neutral with all the NPC factions, aside from Nomads. This does not apply to CF specific factions. There is a formula, and that formula has flexibility.

First, you must know what a loot depot is. They are small, destructible objects next to certain bases that drop garbage loot when destroyed. These depots belong to certain factions. Almost all of them in the game belong to corporation factions, with some belonging to the Liberty Police, Bounty Hunters, and Zoners. CF has added Nomad Depots in some locations. Each depot has 4 pods attached to it... and these pods are what you shoot and destroy, that drop loot.

The formula is simple. 3 liberty corp pods, 2 bretonia corp pods, and 2 rhein corp pods. This typically translates to...
3 DSE (Deep Space Engineering) outside of Planet Manhattan in New York, next to the trade lane to Detroit Munitions
2 BMM (Bretonia Mining and Metals) outside of Southampton Shipyard in New Longon
2 Repub (Republican Shipping) outside of Alster Shipyard in Hamburg

Now... there are other pods scattered throughout the game, that can be substituted for these. Interspace is considered a liberty corporation, and has a base with pods outside of Planet New London, and at Bonn Station in New Berlin. Dauman Contruction has pods at Leipzig station in Dresden. Gateway shipping is a Bretonian corporation, and has pods in New London. BMM has pods at the Tau 32 construction site.

You may ask about Kusari... but as you are neutral with kusari Criminals and Corps alike, there is no need to adjust that Rep.

Note... killing Xenos will improve your rep with everyone except Xenos and Zoners. Zoners will never go hostile because you are killing Xenos, but they will drop to neutral if you start friendly.

Note... if your rep ever gets hostile with Zoners, you can bring it back to neutral by destroying Bounty Hunter pods.. and they can be found at the BH bases in Manchester and Shikoku.

That fantastic this should be a sticky post and maybe a warning if you overkill the storage pods
ie what if you kill 5 Republican Shipping storage pods and suddenly Republican Shipping becomes hostile everywhere you go you get aggro by eveything Republican Shipping
so yeah great post but could you expand alittle on how and were to get out of trouble please
not that i am personally being attacked by Republican Shipping due to an over-site tired'ness
or stupidity ,,,,,, Grrrr ok Republican Shipping are killing me ,, alot
i can hear you laughing ,,,,,,, #out

Not laughing.

Post  {LNAW}Hawkinz on Wed Jun 08, 2011 2:46 am

No, I'm not laughing at you... or even "with" you.

Destroying too many pods is a serious issue. It can be hard to come back from that. Not impossible, but hard.

Unfortunately, there are no criminal factions with depots you can destroy to swing their rep down, and corp reps up. So, that rules out an easy option.

You can attack the faction you just became friendly with, to push it back down. In this case, by destroying too many Rheinland corp pods, your most effective way to counter it would be to attack Unioners, Red Hessians, and Bundschuh and LWB. You would have to be surgical in your strikes against these factions, so as not to make any one of them hostile to you permanently... but by destroying a few of each of their ships, you should be able to improve your standing with the Rheinland Corps while maintaining an overall neutral stance with the criminal factions.

Another option is a general sledgehammer approach. Find Xenos and bash them. In Hudson, for example, outside Barrow Base... which is a Xeno Base. By attacking and killing Xenos, you actually improve your standing with every other faction.... criminal and house alike. Of course, you don't improve your standing with Xenos.

You can also find a Republican Shipping bribe and pay it. The representatives for the corporation are known to show up at the following 4 bases:
Douglas Station/Omega 3 - D6 (BMM)
Freeport 1/Omega 3 - C4 (Zoners)
Helgoland Station/Sigma 13 - D6 (ALG Waste Disposal)
Rügen Station/Omega 3 - F6 (Daumann)

Once you pay that bribe, you can expect issues with the enemies of Republican Shipping... You will be at Friendly status with Repub, and hostile status with Unioners, etc. This means after the bribe, you would need to go back to Hamburg, and destroy more Pods to bring down your rep with Repub, and bring your rep up with Unioners and the other criminal factions that were affected by the bribe. You would have to destroy one pod... check your info sheet, destroy another pod... check your info sheet, etc... Making SURE that you did not over do it this time.

So... your options are... surgical strikes against Rheinland criminals, general strikes against Xenos, Republican Shipping bribes, or... starting the character over.

I think starting a new char would be advisable, only if you have a
low level ship to lose.

Other than that, KILL THOSE DAM XENOS.

Plus side, this will improve your fighting skills too.
But as said, will make you enemy to Xenos eventually, but hay!
Thats what they are there for...hehe

Keep up the good work,

More indepth explanation

Post  {LNAW}Hawkinz on Thu Jun 09, 2011 4:59 am

Each house has specific enemies. Liberty has the Liberty Rogues, Bretonia has the Mollys, Rhienland has the Unioners, etc. There are also generic criminals like the Xenos, and Lane Hackers, and Corsairs, and Outcasts, etc.

If you kill Liberty Rogues, you get big rep credit with Liberty House military and Liberty Corporations. You don't earn the same rep credit with Bretonia or Rheinland or Kusari.
If you kill Unioners, you get big rep credit with Rheinland house military and Rheinland corporations. You don't earn the same rep credit with Liberty or Bretonia.
If you kill Mollys, you get big rep credit with Bretonia House and Bretonia Corps. You don't earn the same rep credit with Rheinland or Liberty.

If you kill Corsairs, you get a LITTLE rep credit with Liberty and Rheinland and Bretonia and Kusari houses and corps.
If you kill Outcasts, you get a LITTLE rep credit with Liberty and Rheinland and Bretonia and Kusari houses and corps.

Now... looking at this in reverse...
...if you kill Liberty Military or Liberty Corporations, you gain BIG rep credit with the specific enemies of Liberty, and a small amount of Rep credit with other criminal factions.
If you kill Bretonia Military or Bretonia Corporations, you gain BIG rep credit with the specific enemies of Bretonia and a small amount of Rep Credit with other criminal factions.
If you kill Rheinland Military or Rheinland Corporations, you gain BIG rep credit with the specific enemies of Rheinland and a small amount of Rep credit with other criminal factions.

HOWEVER! If you kill Liberty Military or Liberty Corporations, you LOSE a large amount of Rep with Liberty military and liberty corporations. You ALSO lose rep with other house military and corporations. You are hurting Good Guys, and other Good Guys don't like it. This goes for the other house military and corporations as well.

You start the game off friendly with a few Liberty factions, neutral to the other house factions, and enemies with most criminals (except Kusari). What this means to the formula...

2 Lib Police pods and 1 DSE pods. You are hitting Liberty harder than the rest, by hitting military and corp pods. You are spreading out the rep hit though, by not just focusing on one or the other. By blowing up these pods, you affect the rep of the criminal factions that operate within liberty space the most... Outcasts, Rogues, Xenos, Junkers, Lane Hackers. YOU ALSO AFFECT THE REPS OF OTHER CRIMINAL FACTIONS. Not as much... but still affected. You don't need to blow up more Liberty assets at this point. For a number of reasons. One, the more you destroy from one specific faction, the more damage it does to your rep. Meaning the 4th pod you blow up for DSE, does more rep damage than the 3rd pod you blew up.

2 BMM pods. These are to make the Mollys and Corsairs neutral. Can you do it with other pods? Yes. However, hitting BMM will reduce the hostility of Mollys and Corsairs MORE than any other pods... and it will affect other corporations LESS. Sure, you could use Interspace pods instead of BMM pods... but blowing up those Interspace pods will damage your rep MORE with all the other House factions, because Interspace has a presence in the other House systems. So, the rep hit across the boards isn't worth it. If there are no BMM pods at Southampton, it is better to fly to the Tau 31 construction site in Tau 23 and blow up two of those BMM pods, than it is to use Interspace as a substitute. You could use Gateway Shipping as a substitute, but it would take 4 pods instead of 2... and the rep hit across the boards would be greater.

2 Republican Shipping. This is to make the Red Hessians and the Unioners and Bundshuh neutral. Again, Rhein corp to make Rhein criminals neutral. The Rhein Corp has the greatest effect on Criminals that operate in Rheinland space. You could use Interspace pods, but you will take a rep hit across ALL the house corps and military. If there are no Republican Shipping pods, it is better to use Dauman (another Rhein Corp) pods at the Leipzig station in Dresden.

If you were to try to substitute Interspace pods for the BMM and the Republican shipping, before you were done you would end up with Rhein house hostile to you... most likely with Repub shipping first, and maybe more. Apparently, you also end up with the Bounty Hunters hostile with you as well.

Just because depots are within a house system, does not automatically make them affect THAT house more. Blowing up the Bounty Hunter pods in Manchester does not make you take a greater rep hit with Bretonia, than if you blew up Bounty Hunter pods in Shikoku.

Interspace is enemies with criminals. Sure, this means that blowing up Interspace Pods will make criminals more friendly. You will just also affect all the corps that are allies or friendly with Interspace as well. You could make all the criminal factions neutral by just going and killing Xenos too. If you kill enough Xenos, everyone else (but Xenos) will be neutral or friendly. The beauty of this formula is that it spreads out the rep hits you take by blowing up Good Guy stuff, so that no one faction bears the brunt of it and goes hostile. The only reason why you destroy more Liberty stuff, is because you can afford the hit with Liberty, since you start off friendly with them. So, yes... blowing up 4 Interspace pods won't make you hostile with Interspace, but it can make you hostile with some of Interspace's allies.... especially if you were only neutral with them to begin with.

I know it can seem complicated. And there is wiggle room in the formula... but if you don't have a really good handle on the Rep system and how killing who affects whomever, you should avoid improvising and ask. If nothing else, read the information on your Infocard when you click on a faction rep. It will tell you who they are enemies and allies with, and that gives you a good indication as to who will take the biggest and smallest rep hits from your actions against that faction.

This procedure costs nothing except the time. A junkers bribe will not make characters neutral with all NPC factions other than Nomads and CF added factions. Reading the procedure explains that. Destroy 7 pods total (2 liberty police, 1 DSE, 2 BMM, 2 Republican Shipping) and you are neutral with Liberty Rogues, Junkers, Xenos, Gaians, Lane Hackers, Mollys, Outcasts, Corsairs, Unioners, Bundschuh, LWB, Red Hessians, etc.
